Welcome to Williams Custom Rods, located in the beautiful state of Kentucky. My rod building calling happened when I began fishing bass tournaments and started repairing my own store bought rods. A good friend of mine, Alan Fong, who works at Fisherman’s Warehouse in California, liked the quality of my repairs and encouraged me to consider building custom rods. Other tournament anglers, as well as friends and acquaintances began asking to have their rods repaired, and that's how “Williams Custom Rods” developed. Over the years I have designed and built many rods, including rods for bass tournament anglers from the west coast to the east coast.
“Quality verses Quantity” another reason I decided years ago to study and become skilled at designing and constructing custom rods. Looking back, this industry has evolved into today’s technical designs, producing rods that can weigh in at less than 3 ounces. Rod building is something that requires patience, listening to ideas, and being competitive enough to keep searching out new techniques that others may think is not feasible. The best part about custom rod building is knowing that each rod you build is for a special purpose, whether it be a personal gift, a rod designed to a customer’s particular use or application, or specifically built for a winning angler. I have gone from working on a small workbench in the garage, to a shop specially designed for rod building (see Shop page).
I take great pride in my rod building, and have over the years developed unique skills, up to and including design, construction, along with distinctive packaging to my customers.
